As the cloud ceiling receded off of El Salto this afternoon, they revealed the encroaching snow line on Taos Mountain. Less than 1500 feet above me, the reality that winter is almost here is setting in.

Two nights in a row in early June provided some spectacular colors at sunset from our viewpoint on El Salto. I captured this one on the second night as the twilight was fading.
Our first New Years' Day in northern New Mexico consisted of a trek across frozen trails to El Salto Falls. The short hike is only about a mile from home, but provides us with a natural enjoyment, year round.
